Minnesota author Louis Erdrich has been awarded the National Book Award for her latest novel,
The Round House. Erdrich, who is part Ojibwe, has been writing for nearly 30 years. Her first novel,
Love Medicine, was an immediate success, winning the 1984 National Book Critics Circle Award for fiction, among other honors.
Erdrich has lived in Minneapolis since 1999. She and her sister own Birchbark Books, Herbs and Native Arts in the Kenwood neighborhood of Minneapolis.
